Description

This quick apple crisp is made entirely in one skillet — no oven needed! Fresh apples caramelize in a buttery brown sugar glaze, then get crowned with a toasty oat topping. Served hot with a melting scoop of ice cream, it’s pure fall-in-a-bowl bliss ready in just 10 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large apples, peeled and sliced (Honeycrisp or Granny Smith)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ⅛ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp cornstarch (mixed with 1 tbsp water, optional for thickening)
  • Pinch of salt
  • 3 tbsp butter (for oat crumble)
  • ¼ cup rolled oats
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar (for oat crumble)
  • ¼ tsp cinnamon (for oat crumble)
  • Pinch of salt (for oat crumble)
  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream
  • Drizzle of caramel sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Apple Filling: Heat butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Add apple slices, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and salt. Stir and cook for 4–5 minutes until the apples soften and the mixture becomes syrupy. (Optional) Stir in the cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce slightly. Push apples to one side of the skillet.
  2. Make the Oat Crumble: In the empty side of the skillet (or a separate small pan), melt butter. Add oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir frequently for 3–4 minutes until golden and crisp.
  3. Assemble the Crisp: Combine the crumble topping with the caramelized apples in the skillet or layer them separately. Remove from heat and let cool for 1 minute. Top with a generous scoop of vanilla ice cream. Drizzle with warm caramel sauce for extra indulgence.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, consider using less sugar or a sugar substitute.
  • Feel free to mix different types of apples for varied flavor.
