Description

Delicious blueberry cinnamon rolls topped with a vibrant purple glaze, perfect for a sweet treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup (180 ml) warm milk (about 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • ¼ cup (50 g) granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg + 1 egg yolk
  • ¼ cup (56 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 3¼ cups (410 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1½ cups (225 g) fresh or frozen blueberries
  • ½ cup (100 g) sugar
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch + 1 tbsp water (slurry, to thicken)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 cup (120 g) powdered sugar
  • 23 tbsp blueberry puree (from cooked filling or fresh blueberries blended & strained)
  • 1 tbsp cream cheese or milk (for creaminess)
  • Optional: a few drops of lemon juice for brightness

Instructions

  1. Make the Dough: In a bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tsp sugar. Let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy. Add remaining sugar, egg, yolk, and melted butter. Mix. Gradually add flour and salt. Knead for 8–10 minutes (dough should be soft but not sticky). Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1–1½ hours until doubled.
  2. Prepare the Blueberry Filling: In a saucepan, cook blueberries, sugar, and lemon juice over medium heat. Mash slightly, then stir in cornstarch slurry. Cook until thickened. Remove from heat, stir in cinnamon, and let cool completely.
  3. Assemble the Rolls: Roll out dough into a rectangle (about 12×18 in / 30×45 cm). Spread cooled blueberry filling evenly over the dough. Roll tightly into a log, seam side down. Slice into 10–12 rolls. Arrange in a greased baking pan, cover, and let rise 30–40 minutes.
  4. Bake: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown and cooked through. Let cool slightly before glazing.
  5. Make the Purple Glaze: Whisk powdered sugar with blueberry puree and cream cheese/milk until smooth and glossy. Spread generously over warm rolls for that dreamy purple finish.

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm but not hot to activate the yeast properly.
  • For a more intense blueberry flavor, use fresh blueberries if available.
  • Adjust the amount of sugar in the glaze according to your taste preference.
