Boston Cream Pie Trifle is a decadent layered dessert that combines the flavors of yellow cake, vanilla pudding, and rich chocolate ganache, all beautifully presented in a trifle bowl.

- 1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box: eggs, oil, water)
- 2 (3.4 oz) boxes instant vanilla pudding mix
- 4 cups cold milk
- 1 (8 oz) tub whipped topping (or 2 cups homemade whipped cream)
- 1 ½ cups chocolate ganache or prepared chocolate frosting
- Chocolate shavings or curls, for garnish
Instructions
- Prepare the yellow cake mix according to package instructions.
- Bake in a 9×13-inch pan.
- Let cool completely, then cut into 1-inch cubes.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together pudding mix and cold milk until smooth and thickened.
- Chill in the refrigerator for at least 5 minutes to set.
- If making ganache: Heat 1 cup heavy cream until just simmering.
- Pour over 1 ½ cups semi-sweet chocolate chips, let sit 2 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
- Let cool slightly so it’s pourable but not hot.
- In a large glass trifle bowl, layer cake cubes on the bottom.
- Spoon vanilla pudding over the cake.
- Repeat layers until the bowl is nearly full.
- Spread chocolate ganache/frosting evenly over the top.
- Pipe or spoon whipped topping on top of the chocolate layer.
- Garnish with chocolate curls or shavings.
- Refrigerate for at least 1 hour before serving to allow flavors to meld.
- Scoop into bowls to serve, making sure each portion has all three layers.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use homemade whipped cream instead of store-bought.
- Make sure the cake is completely cooled before cutting to avoid crumbling.
- This dessert can be made a day in advance for convenience.
