Description
Cheesy Tonkatsu Sticks are a delicious snack made with tender pork loin wrapped around gooey mozzarella cheese, coated in crispy panko breadcrumbs and deep-fried to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 boneless pork loin chops (thinly sliced, about ½ inch thick)
- 4 mozzarella cheese sticks (or cheese slices rolled into sticks)
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs (beaten)
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- Oil for deep frying
- For Serving (Optional):
- Tonkatsu sauce or Japanese curry sauce
- Fresh parsley for garnish
Instructions
- Pound the pork slices thin with a meat mallet for even cooking.
- Season both sides lightly with salt and black pepper.
- Place a cheese stick in the center of each pork slice.
- Roll tightly around the cheese, tucking in the edges. Use toothpicks if needed to hold shape.
- Dredge each pork roll in flour, dip into beaten egg, and coat well with panko breadcrumbs.
- For extra crispiness, repeat egg + panko coating twice.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 170–175°C (340–350°F).
- Fry the pork rolls until golden brown and crispy, about 4–5 minutes.
- Remove and drain on a paper towel.
- Remove toothpicks (if used), slice into sticks, and arrange on a plate.
- Serve with tonkatsu sauce or over Japanese curry for extra flavor.
- Garnish with chopped parsley.
Notes
- For a healthier option, consider baking the rolls instead of deep frying.
- Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.
- These can be made ahead of time and reheated in the oven for a crispy finish.
