Description

A delicious bread loaded with colorful jimmies that adds a festive touch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup light brown sugar (packed)
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • ½ cup milk (room temperature)
  • ¼ cup sour cream (room temperature)
  • ½ cup red and green jimmies sprinkles
  • 1 ½ cups powdered sugar
  • 12 Tablespoons milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • red and green sprinkles (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C), or 160°C for a fan oven. Spray a 8 x 4 loaf pan with cooking spray, or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, vanilla, and almond extract until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well between eggs.
  5. Alternately add the flour mixture and the milk and sour cream to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Do not overmix.
  6. Gently fold in the red and green sprinkles.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
  8. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  10. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract to make the glaze.
  11. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled bread, allowing it to run down the sides. Decorate with additional sprinkles if desired.

Notes

  • This bread is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
  • For an extra festive touch, feel free to add more sprinkles on top of the glaze before it dries.
