Description
Delightfully crafted Christmas Maraschino Cherry Shortbread Cookies for festive joy!
Ingredients
Scale
- 225 g unsalted butter, softened (room temperature)
- 100 g powdered sugar (plus extra for dusting)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 pinch of salt
- 300 g all-purpose flour
- Cherry jam (or strawberry/raspberry)
- Maraschino cherries, drained and patted dry
- Powdered sugar for finishing
Instructions
- Cream the Butter: In a bowl, beat the soft butter and powdered sugar together until light, creamy, and fluffy. Add vanilla and salt. Mix to combine.
- Add the Flour: Add the flour gradually. Mix just until it forms a soft dough. If the dough feels sticky, chill for 10 minutes.
- Shape the Cookies: Preheat your oven to 180°C / 350°F. Roll dough into small balls (about 1 tablespoon each). Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Use your thumb or the back of a small spoon to make a small indentation in the center of each cookie.
- Fill: Add a small spoonful of cherry jam in the center. Place one maraschino cherry on top of the jam.
- Bake: Bake 10–12 minutes, until the bottoms are just lightly golden. Do not overbake — they should stay pale and soft.
- Finish: Let cool completely. Dust generously with powdered sugar for a snowy Christmas look 🎄✨
Notes
- Ensure the maraschino cherries are well-drained to avoid excess moisture.
- For a variation, try using different fruit jams.
- Store cookies in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
