Description
A classic lasagna recipe featuring layers of rich meat sauce, creamy ricotta, and gooey mozzarella cheese.

- 1 lb ground beef (or a mix of beef & pork)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 2 tsp dried basil
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1 tsp sugar
- Salt & black pepper, to taste
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley or basil
- 12 lasagna noodles (cooked al dente, or use oven-ready)
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- Extra Parmesan for topping
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook ground beef with onion until browned. Drain excess fat.
- Add garlic, tomato paste, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, and seasonings. Simmer 25–30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust seasoning.
- In a bowl, mix ricotta, egg, Parmesan, and parsley until creamy.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Layer as follows: Noodles, Meat sauce, Ricotta mixture, Mozzarella. Repeat for 3–4 layers, finishing with noodles, sauce, mozzarella, and Parmesan on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake another 20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
- Let rest 15 minutes before slicing for neat layers.
Notes
- For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef with lentils or mushrooms.
- Letting the lasagna rest before slicing helps maintain its shape.
- Feel free to add vegetables like spinach or zucchini for added nutrition.
