Description

A classic Italian dish with layers of pasta, meat sauce, and cheese.


Ingredients

  • 9 sheets lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 24 ounces tomato sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 16 ounces mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente; drain and lay flat on a kitchen towel.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook ground beef or sausage with chopped garlic and onion until browned.
  4. Add tomato sauce and Italian seasoning; mix until smooth.
  5. In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese; repeat until ingredients are used, finishing with mozzarella and Parmesan on top.
  6. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes; then remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until bubbly and golden brown.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before slicing.

Notes

  • For a vegetarian option, replace meat with sautéed vegetables.
  • Can be made ahead of time and refrigerated before baking.
