- 3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 packet instant yeast (7 g)
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup warm milk
- 2 large eggs (room temp)
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream, chilled
- ¾ cup mascarpone (or cream cheese for a firmer texture)
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Chopped pistachios
- Chopped hazelnuts or almonds
- Toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Make the dough domes: In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
- Add warm milk and eggs, then knead until smooth.
- Incorporate softened butter gradually until dough is elastic and shiny.
- Cover and let rise for 1–2 hours until doubled in size.
- Shape into round buns (about the size of a small fist). Place on a lined baking tray.
- Let rise again for 30–40 minutes.
- Brush with egg wash, sprinkle sesame or nuts, and bake at 180°C (350°F) for 18–20 minutes.
- Cool completely.
- Prepare the cream filling: Whip chilled cream until soft peaks form.
- Add mascarpone, powdered sugar, and vanilla. Whip again until firm and creamy.
- Assemble the domes: Slice the top off each bun.
- Pipe or spoon a large swirl of cream filling inside.
- Replace the “lid” and sprinkle with pistachios or nuts.
