Description

Crispy Mozzarella-Stuffed Onion Rings are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that combines the crunch of onion rings with the gooeyness of melted mozzarella cheese.


Ingredients

  • Large onions: 2
  • Mozzarella cheese (block): 250 g
  • Flour: 1 cup (120 g)
  • Eggs: 2
  • Milk: 2 tbsp
  • Breadcrumbs (panko preferred): 1.5 cups
  • Salt & black pepper: To taste
  • Garlic powder: 1 tsp
  • Paprika: 1 tsp
  • Oil for frying: Enough for deep or shallow fry
  • Fresh parsley (optional): For garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Onion Rings: Slice onions into thick rings (about 1 to 1.5 cm) and separate into pairs of rings.
  2. Fill with Mozzarella: Cut mozzarella block into thin strips and fill the space between the two onion rings with mozzarella, pressing gently. Freeze for 15 minutes.
  3. Breading: Prepare 3 bowls with flour + salt + pepper, whisked eggs + milk, and panko breadcrumbs + paprika + garlic powder. Dip each ring in flour, then egg wash, and coat in breadcrumbs. For extra crunch, repeat egg + breadcrumbs once more and freeze for another 10 minutes.
  4. Fry: Heat oil to 180°C / 350°F and fry rings for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and crispy. Remove and drain on paper towel, then sprinkle with parsley while hot.
