Description

Imagine a cheeseburger and a pepperoni pizza baked into one outrageous, gooey, savory pie. Layers of seasoned beef and melted cheese are tucked inside soft buttery dough, then topped with pepperoni and baked to golden perfection. Ridiculously hearty. Unbelievably good.


Ingredients

  • 1 refrigerated pizza dough (or homemade dough)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil (for brushing)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 ½ lbs (680g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tbsp ketchup
  • 2 tbsp mustard
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika (optional)
  • 23 cups shredded mozzarella (or provolone)
  • 46 slices of American or cheddar cheese (extra melt factor)
  • Sliced pepperoni
  • Optional: sliced jalapeños
  • ½ cup pizza sauce (light layer)
  • Extra mozzarella for the top

Instructions

  1. Heat a skillet over medium. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Add onion + garlic and cook 2–3 minutes more. Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire, pepper, salt, and paprika. Simmer on low 5 minutes, then remove from heat.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F / 190°C. Lightly grease a deep pie dish or springform pan. Press the pizza dough inside the dish and up the sides. Sprinkle a layer of mozzarella on the bottom. Add half the beef mixture. Add a layer of cheese (shredded or slices). Add the rest of the beef. Top with more cheese.
  3. Spread a thin layer of pizza sauce over the top. Cover with shredded mozzarella. Add pepperoni and sliced jalapeños.
  4. Bake 25–35 minutes until the cheese is bubbling and the crust is golden. Let rest 10 minutes before slicing (so it holds together).

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add more jalapeños.
  • Letting the pie rest before slicing helps it hold its shape.
  • This pie can be customized with your favorite toppings.
