Description

A delightful dessert featuring layers of chocolate cake, cherry filling, and whipped cream, all infused with the unique flavor of Dr Pepper.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box chocolate cake mix
  • 1 cup Dr Pepper (or cherry cola)
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 can (21 oz / 600 g) cherry pie filling
  • ½ cup Dr Pepper (simmered into the filling for extra cola flavor, optional)
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • ¼ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Maraschino cherries (for garnish)
  • Chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine chocolate cake mix, Dr Pepper, oil, and eggs.
  3. Bake in a 9×13-inch pan for 30–35 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  4. Let cool completely, then crumble into chunks.
  5. Warm cherry pie filling in a saucepan.
  6. Optional: Stir in ½ cup Dr Pepper and simmer until slightly thickened for a soda-flavored boost. Let cool.
  7. Beat heavy cream, powdered sugar, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  8. Place a layer of cake crumbles at the bottom of each jar.
  9. Add a layer of cherry filling.
  10. Repeat with cake and cherries.
  11. Top with whipped cream.
  12. Garnish with maraschino cherries and optional chocolate shavings.
  13. Chill for 1 hour before serving for best flavor.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use cherry cola instead of regular Dr Pepper.
  • Make sure the cake is completely cooled before crumbling to avoid a soggy texture.
  • These jars can be prepared a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator.
