Ingredients

  • For the Chocolate Sponge
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup (50 g) cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200 g) sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ cup (120 ml) buttermilk
  • For the Tres Leches Mixture
  • 1 cup (240 ml) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup (240 ml) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream
  • 2 tbsp Nutella (optional, for extra hazelnut flavor)
  • For the Frosting
  • 1 cup (240 ml) heavy cream, chilled
  • 3 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • For Decoration
  • Chocolate ganache or chocolate syrup (for drizzle)
  • 12 Ferrero Rocher chocolates
  • White sugar pearls or sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with foil cups.
  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, cocoa, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla.
  4. Mix in dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk until smooth.
  5. Divide batter into cups and bake 20–22 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Cool completely.
  7. In a bowl, whisk evaporated milk, condensed milk, cream, and Nutella.
  8. Poke holes in each cooled cake with a skewer or fork.
  9. Spoon tres leches mixture over each cake until absorbed.
  10. Chill for at least 3 hours (best overnight).
  11. Whip chilled cream, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and vanilla until stiff peaks form.
  12. Pipe onto each cake.
  13. Drizzle chocolate ganache or syrup on top.
  14. Place a Ferrero Rocher in the center.
  15. Sprinkle with sugar pearls.

  • For best results, let the cakes soak overnight in the tres leches mixture.
  • Feel free to adjust the sweetness of the frosting to your preference.
