Description

A unique and indulgent dessert that combines the classic flavors of mac and cheese with a fun cake presentation.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups elbow macaroni (cooked al dente)
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 4 cups whole milk (warm)
  • 4 cups sharp cheddar cheese (shredded)
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 4 cups leftover mac & cheese (firm, chilled overnight)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 3 eggs (beaten)
  • 3 cups panko breadcrumbs
  • Oil, for frying
  • Extra cheese sauce (for the waterfall effect)
  • Fresh herbs (parsley or thyme)

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, melt butter and whisk in flour to make a roux.
  2. Slowly add warm milk, whisking until thickened.
  3. Stir in cheddar, mozzarella, and Parmesan until smooth.
  4. Add garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  5. Mix in cooked pasta. Set aside some sauce for topping.
  6. Spread leftover mac & cheese into a lined baking dish and refrigerate overnight until firm.
  7. Cut into round discs (cake-sized).
  8. Dredge each disc in flour, dip in beaten eggs, then coat in panko breadcrumbs.
  9. Fry until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  10. Place one fried mac & cheese disc on a serving board.
  11. Spread a layer of creamy mac & cheese on top.
  12. Repeat stacking until you have 3–4 layers.
  13. Pour extra hot cheese sauce over the top so it flows down like a cheesy waterfall.
  14. Sprinkle with fresh herbs.
  15. Slice like a cake and serve warm, with cheese oozing out of every layer.

Notes

  • Ensure the mac & cheese is chilled overnight for easier handling.
  • Adjust the seasoning according to your taste preferences.
  • For a spicier kick, consider adding jalapeños to the mac & cheese.
