Description

Delicious homemade donuts topped with a rich maple caramel glaze and crispy bacon.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ¾ cups (330g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk (not hot)
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
  • ½ cup (110g) brown sugar
  • ¼ cup (60g) butter
  • ¼ cup (60 ml) pure maple syrup
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Warm the milk gently until just warm — not hot.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
  3. Add the butter, egg, and salt — mix.
  4. Add flour gradually and knead (by hand or mixer) until the dough is soft and smooth.
  5. Cover and let rise 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Roll dough to about ½-inch thickness on a floured surface.
  7. Cut into donut shapes using cutters or cups.
  8. Let the cut donuts rise another 20–25 minutes.
  9. Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
  10. Fry donuts 1 minute per side until golden.
  11. Place on paper towels to drain.
  12. Cook bacon in a skillet until crisp.
  13. Sprinkle in the brown sugar and stir until the bacon becomes caramelized.
  14. Transfer to a plate and let cool.
  15. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and cream.
  16. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly, about 3–4 minutes.
  17. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla + pinch of salt.
  18. Let it thicken slightly as it cools.
  19. Dip warm donuts into the maple caramel glaze.
  20. Top immediately with crispy maple-sugar bacon pieces.
  21. Drizzle extra caramel over the top (optional but highly recommended 😍).

Notes

  • Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
  • Donuts can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
  • For a richer flavor, use high-quality maple syrup.
