Ingredients
Scale
- 2 ¾ cups (330g) all-purpose flour
- 2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast (1 packet)
- 3 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ¾ cup warm milk (not hot)
- 2 tbsp butter, softened
- 1 egg
- Oil for frying (vegetable, canola, or peanut oil)
- ½ cup (120 ml) heavy cream
- ½ cup (110g) brown sugar
- ¼ cup (60g) butter
- ¼ cup (60 ml) pure maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- Pinch of salt
- 6 slices thick-cut bacon, chopped
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
Instructions
- Warm the milk gently until just warm — not hot.
- In a large bowl, whisk warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let sit 5 minutes until foamy.
- Add the butter, egg, and salt — mix.
- Add flour gradually and knead (by hand or mixer) until the dough is soft and smooth.
- Cover and let rise 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Roll dough to about ½-inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Cut into donut shapes using cutters or cups.
- Let the cut donuts rise another 20–25 minutes.
- Heat oil to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry donuts 1 minute per side until golden.
- Place on paper towels to drain.
- Cook bacon in a skillet until crisp.
- Sprinkle in the brown sugar and stir until the bacon becomes caramelized.
- Transfer to a plate and let cool.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and cream.
- Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring constantly, about 3–4 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla + pinch of salt.
- Let it thicken slightly as it cools.
- Dip warm donuts into the maple caramel glaze.
- Top immediately with crispy maple-sugar bacon pieces.
- Drizzle extra caramel over the top (optional but highly recommended 😍).
Notes
- Ensure the milk is warm, not hot, to activate the yeast properly.
- Donuts can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
- For a richer flavor, use high-quality maple syrup.
