Description
A rich and moist chocolate cake layered with Nutella frosting.
Ingredients

- 1 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ⅔ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup boiling water
- 1 cup Nutella (for frosting)
- 1 cup heavy cream (for frosting)
- Chocolate shavings or nuts (for garnish, optional)
Instructions
- Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Carefully mix in the boiling water. The batter will be thin but this is normal.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Place both pans in the oven and bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Once baked, remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer them to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form. Gradually add the Nutella and beat until well combined and fluffy.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a generous amount of Nutella frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- If desired, sprinkle chocolate shavings or nuts on top for added texture and flavor.
Notes
- This cake can be made a day in advance and stored in the fridge.
- Make sure the cakes are completely cool before frosting.
- For a more intense chocolate flavor, use high-quality cocoa powder.
