Description
Peach Mochi Buns are delightful, chewy treats filled with sweet peach jam or puree, perfect for dessert lovers.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup glutinous rice flour (Mochiko)
- ¼ cup cornstarch
- ¼ cup sugar
- 1 cup milk (or coconut milk for extra richness)
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup sweet peach jam or peach puree (strained for smoothness)
- ½ cup whipped cream or custard (optional, for creaminess)
- Food coloring (red + yellow/orange)
- Cornstarch or potato starch (for dusting)
- Small cupcake liners
Instructions
- In a heatproof bowl, whisk glutinous rice flour, cornstarch, sugar, and milk until smooth.
- Microwave (or steam) in 1-minute intervals, stirring each time, until the dough becomes thick, shiny, and stretchy (about 3–4 minutes total).
- Stir in melted butter, then let the dough cool slightly.
- Mix peach jam (or puree) with whipped cream or custard if you want a creamy center. Chill in the fridge to firm up.
- Dust a surface and your hands with cornstarch. Divide mochi dough into equal pieces (about golf ball size).
- Flatten each piece into a disc, place a spoonful of filling in the center, and pinch edges together to seal.
- Roll gently into a ball, then use a toothpick or small tool to press a line down the middle for the peach crease.
- Lightly brush or dab food coloring: red/pink on one side, yellow/orange on the other, blending for a natural peach effect.
- Dust with a little cornstarch to give a frosty, realistic look.
- Place each bun in a cupcake liner. Chill for 30 minutes before serving for the best texture.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use coconut milk instead of regular milk.
- Ensure the peach filling is smooth for the best texture.
- Experiment with different colors for decoration.
