Description
A tropical, sweet-heat hot sauce that’s perfect for grilled meats, tacos, seafood, or even as a glaze.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups fresh pineapple chunks (about 1 medium pineapple, peeled and cored)
- 3–4 fresh habanero peppers (stemmed, adjust to heat preference)
- 1 small onion, roughly chopped
- 3 garlic cloves
- ½ cup white vinegar (or apple cider vinegar for a fruitier tang)
- ¼ cup lime juice (freshly squeezed)
- 3 tbsp honey or agave syrup (balances the heat)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp ground cumin
- Fresh cilantro or parsley (optional, for garnish and freshness)
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, add olive oil, onion, and garlic. Cook 3–4 minutes until fragrant.
- Stir in pineapple chunks and habanero peppers. Cook 5 minutes until the pineapple softens slightly.
- Transfer mixture to a blender. Add vinegar, lime juice, honey, salt, and cumin. Blend until completely smooth.
- Pour blended sauce back into the pan. Simmer on low heat for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
- Let sauce cool completely. Pour into sterilized glass jars or bottles. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
Notes
- Adjust the number of habanero peppers based on your heat preference.
- For a fruitier flavor, use apple cider vinegar instead of white vinegar.
- Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
