Scale
  • 1 cup (125 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup (120 ml) buttermilk
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp red food coloring
  • 8 oz (225 g) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup (60 g) powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups (360 ml) cold heavy cream
  • Crushed Oreos or whole mini Oreos for topping
  • White chocolate shavings for topping
  • Red velvet crumbs (from cake) for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix sugar, oil, egg, buttermilk, vinegar, vanilla, and red food coloring until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients; mix just until combined.
  5. Pour into a lined 8×8-inch pan and bake for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Let cool completely, then crumble half the cake finely for layering.
  7. Beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla until creamy.
  8. In a separate bowl, whip the cold heavy cream to stiff peaks.
  9. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until smooth and fluffy.
  10. In clear dessert cups or jars, layer red velvet cake crumbs and cream cheese mousse, repeating layers.
  11. Top with more cream cheese mousse.
  12. Sprinkle with red velvet crumbs, white chocolate shavings, and top with an Oreo cookie.
  13. Chill for at least 2 hours before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is softened for easy mixing.
  • Chilling the cups allows the flavors to meld together.
  • Use mini Oreos for a cute presentation.
